Ontario Security Guard Test Passing Score

What candidates should know about score reporting, practice scores, and avoiding unverified pass-score claims.

Quick answer

Ontario’s official security guard study guide states that the cut score is 62%. The test contains 60 multiple-choice questions. Treat 62% as the current official percentage, but rely on the testing provider’s result rather than trying to reconstruct its scoring or rounding rules yourself.

What a cut score means

A cut score is the threshold used to determine whether a test result meets the required standard. It is not a promise that every test form is identical or that memorizing a fixed number of answers is a sound strategy. Ontario explains that subject-matter experts developed, reviewed, and validated test questions and participated in setting the cut scores.

This website applies the verified 62% threshold to completed mock exams so the result is easier to interpret. That label is only a practice comparison. It is not an official result, does not create a testing completion number, and cannot guarantee success on the ministry test.

Do not aim for the minimum

Studying only until a practice score reaches 62% leaves little room for differences in question wording, stress, or weak topic coverage. A better readiness check uses three signals:

  • you can explain why the correct answer is safer or more lawful;
  • no major curriculum topic is consistently weak;
  • your timed scores are stable across several sessions rather than one favourable question set.

For example, an 80% overall practice score can hide a serious problem if nearly every legal-authority question was missed. Open the topic breakdown, review the explanations, and practise that category before retaking a mixed mock exam.

How this site calculates practice scores

The practice engine divides correct answers by all questions in the session and rounds the percentage to the nearest whole number for display. Unanswered questions remain part of the total. The result page also shows correct, incorrect, and unanswered counts so the rounded percentage is not the only information available.

Official scoring and result reporting belong to Ontario’s testing program. If your official result is close to the cut score or you believe there is an administrative issue, use the contact information supplied by the testing provider. An independent study site cannot review or change an official result.

When results arrive

Ontario’s study guide says test results are made available within five business days. Keep the confirmation details provided at booking and follow the current result-retrieval instructions. After a successful result, you receive the Ontario testing completion number needed for the licence application. Passing the test by itself does not issue a licence or authorize work.

Verify before relying on a number

The 62% value on this page was checked against Ontario’s official study guide on the review date shown above. Testing policies can change. If the official testing page, study guide, or booking instructions show a newer value, follow the official source and report the discrepancy so this page can be corrected.
