Quick answer

The Ontario security guard test has 60 multiple-choice questions and 75 minutes of test-writing time. Ontario’s official study guide lists a 62% cut score. Questions are based on the required basic training curriculum, not on a single short list of facts. This format is specific to Ontario and should not be presented as a Canada-wide exam format.

The extra appointment time is not extra writing time. It allows for registration, instructions, identity checks, and administration. Follow the current booking confirmation because the testing provider’s arrival and technical instructions can change.

What kinds of knowledge are tested?

The ministry syllabus covers the security industry, the Private Security and Investigative Services Act and regulations, basic security procedures, report writing, health and safety, emergency response, the Canadian legal system, legal authorities, communication, sensitivity training, use-of-force theory, and first-aid awareness. A strong study plan connects each fact to a decision a guard might make.

For example, a report-writing question may ask which sentence is objective. A legal-authority question may test whether the guard distinguishes an observation from a suspicion. A communication question may ask for the safest next step in a tense but non-violent interaction. These are original examples of the reasoning style; they are not recalled or official test questions.

How to use the 75 minutes

Seventy-five minutes for 60 questions averages 75 seconds per question. That does not mean spending exactly 75 seconds on each item. Read the question stem carefully, identify what is being asked, remove answers that contradict safety or role limits, and choose the best remaining response. If the testing interface permits review, avoid letting one difficult item consume time needed for the rest.

In this site’s mock mode, answer every question you can. An unanswered item counts against the practice percentage. Use the result breakdown to find weak topics rather than repeatedly taking random tests without reviewing explanations.

Registration and delivery

You need an Ontario training completion number from your basic training provider before registering. Ontario directs candidates to its testing provider for current payment, location, language, accessibility, and technical instructions. The provincial information describes online testing and testing at select DriveTest centres; availability should be confirmed during booking rather than assumed.

Candidates who require disability-related accommodation should contact the testing provider before the appointment. Do not wait until test day to raise a requirement that may need advance arrangements.

Avoid misleading preparation claims

No independent practice website can guarantee the questions you will see or guarantee a pass. Do not use leaked, recalled, or “exact exam” material. The safer method is to learn the Ontario curriculum, practise applying it, and verify legal wording against the linked official sources.
